Heartward is the central plaza of the fortified former monastic community of Helm’s Hold. Its most prominent features are symbols of life and death: a hangman’s scaffold alongside the community marketplace. Tempers in the community often run high, especially since the marketplace doesn’t do as much business as its proprietors would like, and so guardsmen watch from the plaza’s perimeter in order to quickly catch any trouble.
On certain nights, though, the plaza is host to a show of an entirely different kind:the ghosts of those who once lived here go about their business, as they did while they were still living. Some are reenactments, while others appear to be yet to come. The plaza itself is named for a small shrine on the edge of the plaza devoted to Sune, goddess of beauty and romance. Lovers often try to meet at the shrine, believing that it bestows good luck on their relationship.
